Fuck Poor People

I have had it. I am sick and fucking tired of all the handouts to poor people. And I am tired of faking the funk like I really care and saddened by their 'misfortune'. Because honestly I don't.

Hell I can't.

While I go to work every day... EVERY DAY. I have to sit here and figure out how can I continue to pay my student loans and at the same time pay for every other bill I have. But yet they are getting renovated apartments in Northwest DC for $800 a month (over $5o0 less than what I pay), Food stamps, and now even cell phones. Yes you read correctly, the Lifeline Service provides FREE cellular service, a FREE cell phone, and FREE Minutes every month at no cost for anything – there are no contracts, no recurring fees and no monthly charges. All you have to do is get government assistance and your total household income has to be at or below 135% of the poverty guidelines set by your State or the Federal Government. Oh yeah by the way all of this is provided courtesy of Government dollars.

What about the working poor can we get a break as well?? Can I get half off my Sprint bill because I work?? Or a free Exxon Gas card because I get off my lazy ass and drive to work every day??

What about those who are doing and trying to do? If you are at or below 135% of the poverty level... you don't have a job and have no need for a cell phone. I mean really who are you calling on a cell phone your ass is at home watching Judge Judy?? They don't need a cell phone subsidized by the U.S. Government. What we need are more grants for college students and less loans... a reversal of gas taxes on consumers and more on Big Oil... cheaper health insurance... not Becky and Cousin TeTe coming up with yet another hustle to sell their government subsidies.

YES, I'm totally with you! Great points man, especially regarding student loans!

It seems so simple, and yet, so difficult for the government to get us out of the mess. They seem to be making all the wrong decisions. I couldn't agree with you more.

you know I was sooo ready to come for you ROYALLY! lol But I can't cause you make some really valid points! For doing nothing they get rewarded! For those that are trying to do something we get the shit end of the stick and headaches and phonecalls from bill collectors!

The only thing I wish you would do is look at the other side... What made these people "poor" as you put it. circumstances are real funny and things can happen to anybody! It was on the news, working man, since 14 years old now 51, is unemployed. Had a family of 4 and a wife. Severance isn't gonna be there forever and the economy sucks right now... so think about that!

colin shush... before i come to NY

Fuzzy... i totally understand that hardship falls on people from all walks of life and that is quite sad... and yes they should be assistance for them just as it should be assistance for those who work and are just making it.

and they still dont need cell phones im all for the necessities of life but cells are not a necessity

Now waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiitttt a minute Mr. C. BapTISTE-Williams. You're not sounding like my favorite lib that I've come to grow and love. These are the poooooooooor. They need our help! How can you just say 'FUCK POOR PEOPLE'...? I'm shocked! LMAO!

Now that you're fed up about that lil cell phone situation, I want you to wrap your arms around the idea that now that OB is preparing to run the show, not only are they gonna get more gov't assistance, but they are also gonna get tax REBATES having not paid any taxes at all and guess who's paying for that. ROTF. Big smile...BIG smile...BIIIIIIIIIIG SMILE!!!

Are you serious? I was unaware of that. Not only is this couresy of hard working people, but they're getting cell phones too? WOW! I'm feeling your plight! Makes you feel like what am I doing wrong!!

It sounds like you would be much happier if you just quit your job, default on all of your bills so that your credit is paralyzed, and develop a dibilitating addiction to drugs or alcohol. Then you could finally live the "good life" of the poor people that you have so much bitterness toward. Wow. Who would've thought that giving someone a cell phone could spark such contempt.

C. Baptiste-Williams said...

my fellow alum... it was tongue and cheek more about the government and how society is set up than actual poor people.

Crazy Diamond said...

:) I know where you're coming from, and I agree there are disadvantages to being middle class or part of the working poor. Believe me, I know. I just think that for every cell phone or food stamp that is distributed to poor people, the system, the government, gives millions in unearned tax breaks, and now billions in bailout money to folks who really don't need it. We hardly ever hear about kind of "redistribution of wealth," but Cousin TeTe gets a free metroPCS, or free WiFi zones are set up in poor neighborhoods in Jacksonville, Fla., and folks voice outrage.

C. Baptiste-Williams said...

WHAT?!?!? free wifi... i am so writing my one nonvoting congressman now.

Poor people dont have money for computers why should they get free wifi. They should go to the public library!!

lol

Crazy Diamond, I think anyone should voice outrage when the system fails. And this is another example of the system failing.

Crazy Diamond said...

When I was working in Jacksonville I wrote about the free WiFi zones, and a program to help give poor people computers. I can't tell you how many vicious calls I got from people complaining about "n!gg@s" getting handouts, so be mindful of the company you keep.

Heaven forbid the government help poor people, instead of simply locking them up.

C. Baptiste-Williams said...

no one ever said poor people shouldn't get help.

The things you've mentioned at the end are all smart things that we should put in place, and I think we all can agree the support pendulum can go too far in one direction.

One thing to keep in mind though is that those who get all of the government services, such as the free cell phones, are in such a position where even with all of those handouts life still is far from desirable.

And it might just be me, but I would still prefer to the recent graduate paying off loans, like I am, than living in government housing knowing that I cannot make X amount of dollars because if I do I would loose certain benefits.

Excellent point @ J. Clarence
Baptiste have you considered that people who earn more than you may feel the same about your gripes as you do about those who have less than you? Why should they have to pay more in taxes to help people like you since you are educated and can survive better than those who have less? Fuck the poor!

C. Baptiste-Williams said...

yes i have and they are entitled to their gripes as i am to mine.

Wow. While you have some valid points, I believe that your argument, as stated, is very black and white... when the real situation is soooooooo gray. Yes, the idea of someone receiving these handouts while you or I work to support ourselves may be a bit unsettling, but I would rather be on my side of the fence any day!

I receive such a sense of empowerment from being independent. A sense of empowerment that people receiving assistance will never feel.

These people, what ever their situations may be, will always be scrutinized by people who share the same opinions as you. They are no better or no worse than us.

Your post actually made me kind of sad. Yes, there are some people who are probably just sitting at home watching Judge Judy, but I am sure that there are more people who would rather not be in that predicament.

One last thing... you mention that in order to qualify for some government assistance that one has to be at or below 135% of the poverty guidelines set by State or Federal Government... well, in 2007, the Federal poverty line was set at $24,130 a year for a family of 5. A family of 5 and you have to make 135% or more below that in order to qualify?! I make almost three times that and I am one person! I have NO problem with my tax dollars going to these families and people in NEED.

wow these comments are hilarious...

i think so many people didn't get the post. I dont think C. Baptiste is being literal with his post but just drawing attention to the nonsense uncessary handouts that certain people get. like the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy.

Lighten up people!!

No I believe Anonymous was simply pointing out that to many of us, C.Bapiste is THE POOR that we should say "fuck you" to... at least from the vantage point of wealthier people many of whom had to wait for years even after graduating college and paying back loans to begin to experience greater economic stability. C Baptiste, you'll make it if you work hard and do your part to help those in need as opposed to trying to make them feel bad about their situations.

C. Baptiste-Williams said...

and how exactly did i make anyone feel bad?

did you even read the post? the post is about the working poor and unecessary government subsidies.

Hmmm said...

Unessessary for whom? Not you but maybe this is a godsend to elderly people with health problems living in high crime communities or poor families who need a phone to get a call back from a potential employer but can't afford a phone! It's so easy to gripe about what the gov does for other "poor" people when you have a little more than them. Focusing on a gov cell phone program that most probably didn't know about BEFORE you told us actually creates more anomosity towards poor people, not the government. Sorry that you are so defensive about it but your article is shameful.

Anonymous said...

hmmm sorry i think you are wrong on this. i have no anomosity for poorer people after reading this but actually pissed my tax dollars are going for this nonsense.

a cell phone is a luxury not a necessity. if they want to give them something give them free home service or free access to internet at librarys and community centers.

i dont want my taxes going to free cell phones.

Hmmm said...

I'm sure those in need would also prefer land line service but ironically, land line phone service is more expensive to subsidize than cellular service. Maybe 15-20 years back it wasnt but today, Computers and communication devices such as phone service are in fact UTILITIES not "luxury items". Without them, households are much likely to be and STAY poor.Do your homework

Anonymous said...

Wow! The comments piled in indeed. LMAO. Btw, get me outta this place.

bLaQ~n~MiLD said...

LMAO@ a 'cell' phone being a 'necessary utility'. Dude stop it!

Damnit!

Anonymous said...

lmao!!
some of these guys like bLaQ and C Bap should stop trying to "act white" by pretending they can't understand poverty or how the poorest Americans may need help with a phone. Nobody feels sorry for your lack of affluence so WORK HARDER and stop picking on poor people.

The government should enact "a reversal of gas taxes on consumers and more on Big Oil." ?

This will give you a break how?

You need to pick up an Economics textbook right quick!
