Shit Your Mother Should Have Taught You #1

For the second time in less than a week, I have received a phone call at an improper hour. At 3:53am, Saturday morning, a person that I have hung out with a total of three times thought it was ok to call my house. When I saw him out Sunday, I confronted him, for him to tell me oh I was out and thought you were out as well.

This morning at 7:29am, I received yet another phone call from yet another person I have been hanging out with. Later this afternoon he explained, "Oh I am up at 5am everyday, I thought you would be up by then."

I remember years ago when I was in undergrad my mother called me at 7 something in the morning. I proceeded to answer the phone not with an hello but with, "Who is dead?" Since then my mother has never called me before 9am during the week and on the weekend waits for me to call her first. However for the record my mother is the only person that is alive today that has permission to call me at such an hour.

I remember growing up my mother would not allow me to call someone else's house after 10pm CST. She said it was disrespectful and there was nothing you needed to talk about at that hour. Regardless of what is going on in your life... there is no reason for anyone to call me or anyone else at 4 or 7am. If you thought you were getting some sex... if you weren't there before 4 it isn't going to happen. You wanted to hear my voice first thing in the morning... you should have been there last night. Like I told the both of them I found it very disrespectful that they even thought it was ok to call my house at such an hour and would expect for them to never do it again.

So just for general reference:

  • If you are dying call 911... then hit me at 10am. I am not a doctor what the fuck can I do for you.
  • If you are stranded call a taxi... I'd rather give you $20 than get out of my bed at such an hour.
  • Someone I know died... yet again hit me at 10am, the will still be dead at 10am.

ROTF@ this Post. I LOVE IT!

Ya know, I too was taught the same thing growing up. My moms would not allow me to make/receive calls after 10 pm and I didn't understand why until I grew up and had my own phone. Now I don't even answer my phone after 10 during the week (Unless it's Lil Dred) and after midnight on the weekend cause I'm usually up until at least 12. Other than that it's extremely rude.

Great post again!

I gotta agree. I've always lived by the 9:00 AM and 11:00 pm rule myself. Unless I specifically tell you to call me outside of those hours, don't even think about it.

And throughout my life, whenever I've gotten a call at an odd hour of the night, it has been to tell me someone has died, so much so that now I get immediately tense when the phone rings then.

now u know anyone calling u at 4am wanted some. but u are right that is a mess just no hometraining.

I feel you on this one. Nothing upsets me more then to be woken from a sound sleep for some non-sense.

excellent! i think everyone should have these rules. some people feel that its ok to call u at anytime of the night.

I must admit it has been quite sometime since I thought about the 10:00PM rule, but my circumstances are different I work irregular hours and so does a couple of my friends so we tend to call late night then again we are all single and reside alone and no rules to calls have been applied. I grew up in an household that the phone was not to ring or be used after 10:00PM unless it was an emergency. Today folks tend to think that no matter where they are or what time it is it is okay to telephone folks; on the contrary! Respect is just the minimum!

I am in total agreeance. For the last few weeks I have been doing something that I thought I could never do. I put my phone on silent when I go to bed.

i wish i could do that but as an only child to a single mother i have to always be available.

again she is the only person that can call me when she so desires.

well a few things, if someone is really stranded do u think they have the money to call a cab and if so how you gonna give them 20 dollars? Someone is only gonna call you at 4 in the morning, if A. you have conversed with them at that time on a saturday night b4 or B. it's a booty call. Think about it. Someone coulda been calling you to tell you your place was on fire, but i guess they could call back at 10 in the morning, but u would be burnt to a crisp.

C. Baptiste-Williams said...

i have a working fire detector.

C. Baptiste-Williams said...

oh yeah and if you dont have cab fare you shouldnt be out at 4am... you should be resting for work the next day.

amen amen amen... oww for resting for work the next day.

i agree calling someone at 4am is rude and inconsiderate. even if it is for a booty call that is rude they should have just found someone wherever they were till that time of the morning.

if u were here the clubs close at 2 so by 4 they could have had whatever they needed and been back to sleep. LOL

hey the cab fare was your comment, it was stupid to say you would give someone 20 dollars yet your not gettin out of bed which seems impossible. however the stranded part could have been the result of a tragedy and a friend thought highly enough of you to call you for help, cuz sometimes they need it.

and u may have a working smoke alarm, but i dunno too many fire detectors. sometimes the fire has gotten to you before the smoke alarm goes off

C. Baptiste-Williams said...

well bitch just let me die... just dont call me at that time of the morning.

there was no fucking emergency he just wanted sex or was drunk. For either Im not the one. And he knows that now and so do u.

Gentlemen it is truly a personal choice as when you allow calls through and when you feel the need to assist such a late night caller; there are various circumstances and not to mention each person has his or her own guidelines. The issue about a smoke detector and cab fare squash that thought, we get the idea.

LMAO. I'm so glad that I don't hear shit when I sleep so be it phone or fire, they'd be stranded and I'd be dead. Aaaaahhhh... *Sing'n* SLEEEEEEEP IN HEAAAA-VENLY PEAAAACE! :-)
