NBC 6 South Florida News Story

(Please note the first 2 minutes are quite painful...
but it is the last 30 seconds of the clip you need to see)

Update: Click here for the entire News Story

Update: View Cocodorm's response In their defense "Cmack, Alex Flex and Breion secured over a half a dozen signatures on a petition from neighbors in support of CocoDorm." So 7 neighbors want them around!! They really need to hire a PR person before they start releasing press releases.

I feel so sorry for those kids, How do they end up doing that? I mean who grows up dreaming to be a porn star? This is just awful, and spreading HIV to others outside of that business....Shame, Shame, Shame

i was hoping u would post the whole thing... this is a mess

Embarassed and sad...Mainly because when you see who the "owner" of the business is and who the actual "employees" are, it felt like slavery and prostitution rolled into one. That's it for me....

In defense of the Cocodorm...

Uhm, why is it that we as black gay men see nothing wrong with white residents trying to "rid" their neighborhood of black gay men?

Thats the real issue at hand. As long as the cocodorm is safe, these men are grown adults and can do what they want. So before we start saying "the cocodorm is at it again" we need to ask ourselves:

Why are we so quick to demonize porn, when we all watch it?

Why are we so quick to want to represent sex between black men as "bad"?

Why are we so quick to support wealthy white people in their pursuit to gentrify their neighborhoods?

Those are the real questions. Clearly this Florida news station wanted to launch a moral campaign against black sex parties and black gay men. But the fact of the matter is, its not illegal and consenting adults have the right to do what they please. Lets be careful not to confuse ethics with legality here.

I don’t see the neighbors trying to “rid” their neighborhoods of gay black males but instead trying to remove a porn business from their neighborhood.

I am not demonizing anything I am just writing about news stories that I found of interest. Never do you see my personal thoughts on porn. Whether it is legal or not my degrees are in Public Relations, Marketing and Merchandising not law so I am not one to comment on that either.

AlexFlex ~
First I am sorry you felt the need to delete your comment but of course with the wonders of technology, I still have a copy and was able to read it in its entirety.
I have not passed any moral judgments, yet. (But seeing this is my space on the WWW, I leave the option open for me to do so). However other people who read this page have and that is their right to do so. We don’t have to agree with what someone says or does, but we should respect their right to have an opinion. Per your comment and the reference to your name on the Cocodorm website, I assume you are one of the residents. As a resident I am sure you have more knowledge of what goes on in the house than any of us who borrow other’s passwords or watch the bootleg copies of the movies (not necessarily referring to me, so don’t ask me… cause I will plead the 5th) While I personally have no idea why anyone would want to do porn or be on a live web show, I believe it is their decision to do that and respect that decision. Most of us have sex, some of us have had fights, and quite a few of us watch porn… so I don’t knock your decision to do what you do, I personally just blog about things I find of interest. I just hope that you guys are practicing safe sex (especially after reading the report from the Chicago Health Dept.), will get better curtains for your windows, and are making decisions with your lives that you will not regret in a few years.

You cant be serious! How can most of you, which engage in some sort of sexual act on a daily bases stand back on some rickety( at best) moral platform and pass down your judgment on people you don't even know?

Yes, they have sex in the CocoDorm (As a resident I know). The same kind of sex you have in your house and in every other house on that block. No, there isn't prostitution being run out of the house. If there was a brothel operating on your block you would know about it and it would have been long since shut down. More than half the residents on the block had no clue of the house or its residents existence (I walked around collecting signatures for a petition). Yes, back in Chicago (before my time) there were some issues with the models and I'm sure some of them did in fact have some sort of disease, but do you really think those diseases were cultured and developed in the Dorm? More than likely they were picked up from a Chicago resident or brought in from the model's hometown and then brought back to the dorm. The CocoDorm in Chicago contracted out a local organization to anonymously test the boys as soon as they arrived at the dorm, and was validated because studies have shown gay black men to be highly infected with STDs. This is not doing of the CocoDorm, but an education issue and CocoDorm has been doing their best to promote safe sex.

Have you had your HIV test recently? I have. Did you think that guy in the club was fine, but had no condom on hand? Because that's how most stories of disease begin, it just isn't put in the news. Flava Works had been planning to open an office in Miami since 2005, long before the STD "scandal" in the Spring of 2006. So the company moves to Miami and tries a fresh start, new models, strickter rules and iron clad verification of the models STD/HIV status. Things seemed to have turned around too, until an anonymous package was delivered to the local news and neighbors in an attempt to stop the operation of the dorm to preserve the innocence of the neighborhood. More like competitors cut throating the Flava Works. Who else could financially back the amount of propaganda in those packets? They even went low enough to call this operation "slavery" because of a white owner. I personally cannot tolerate this kind of racism. Yes, we as black people are capable of racism too and denouncing this company because of a white owner is a prime example of the double edged sword.

Now the news story painted a vague picture of a house full of sexual deviants and malicious thugs. Yes, there was a fight, which reality type of show hasn't had unpleasant incidents like this? People fight, its just that their fights are private and don't get broadcast over the Internet. I personally surfed the Internet to see if we are the only site that caters to the voyeuristic genre of the porn industry, and low and behold we aren't! There are over 2,000 sites that provide this sort of service, most of which are white/female oriented. Its not wonder that we are singled out Ive yet to see one blog degrading and belittling them. Its even more painful to know most blogs are spearheaded by black authors( who quote unquote) are appalled by the degradation of their people, but have no problem in condemning said people in fact less filth..

As long as people are having unprotected sex STDs will exist. Unsafe sex is not against the law, but even then CocoDorm has a condom only policy. Flava Works and the dorm are properly licensed businesses which do not break any laws and they will be around for decades to come. Please before you attack someone take twenty seconds(that's all it usually takes) and think about the bad shit you've done in your life and ask yourself, can i really throw this stone? Wrap it up and be safe, take responsibility for your own actions.

In a white dominated business you have actors like Jeff Palmer who only do bare back video's. with the top black porn stars. i don't see them in the news being attacked by the media. As a former model of Flavaworks, i know for a fact that that in Miami cocodorm promotes safe sex and i personally went with the manager of the house to get tested and all of us were happy to know that we all tested negative for std's. if someone tested positive they were to be sent home.
Now i ask what do u suggest to the people who have a fantasy to do porn and get the chance to live it out at Cocodorm do? there are bucket's and bucket's of condoms through out the house. In the end were are all grown and as we please. realistically your gonna get a lot of people with std's who don't know they have one come to the dorm get tested find out, and get sent home. is the dorm really at fault? Or our bashing of the black Gay community.

AlexFlex said...

First and foremost i truly believe free press is the only logical source for un-bias news. when the facts are reasearched and the platform unbiased.

Opinions are just that, and i have no problem with that, but rightly your opinion should be challenged to give a broad spectrum of a subject. Isn't that the true purpose of the press regardless if independent or not.

i dont understand how he sees this as someone wanting gay black males out of their neighborhood.... stop playin victim and put up some curtains!! who the hell other than poor trash use towels and sheets to cover their windows

Anonymous said...

i think these comments are getting off the point... from the clip you have posted i saw the issue being a porn business in a residential neighborhood with kids running in the streets as if they dont have yards.

AlexFlex said...

To colonicnyc----

the window I was looking through overlooks a deserted lot not some beaver cleaver neighborhood. in fact in there are three abandoned lots in succession and a less than habitable waterway. curtains would only prevent me from having took look at that. There are no kids out there, in fact the only people who were out there were cameramen who were filming me through that window.

"I wouldn't want porn being made in my neighborhood" Bull it's sex. Only difference between the sex in the dorm and the sex in your homes is the fact that it is on camera.

So presumably all sex should be banned, or is it just gay sex? Unless we're inviting kids in to visit, which we're not and there is now way to view what happens in the house what is your moral dilemna

AlexFlex said...

Lastly i would like to say that we practice safe sex, "New hole New condom" all the guys are tested and are in no way exploited. No one is ever made to do something they don't want to. everything is based on the models consent. We're not the dorm of the past and have made many efforts in the prevention of it's reappearance . My concern is that the guys who are here are gonna be labeled as CARRIERS and through blogs like this and others put out in the world as deviant sex addicted diseased thugs when most of them are the nicest people you'll ever meet. The choice to make porn as a living should not be looked down upon just because you wouldn't do it.The same people who have made porn before probably come in contact with on a daily basis, not to mention hold seats in political positions, and you just don't know it. Now morally you might feel it's wrong and that is your call, but in the same breathe is it morally right to berate someone because they don't live like YOU?

I 100% agree wit alex on everything. He kind of just took the words out my mouth. One thing he barely touched,or maybe i should read the blog again, is that whole slave thing. Did you know that slaves weren't only black. They were also asain slaves, jewish slaves, and probably slaves of each each race but because african slavery hits closer to home for us it seems wrong to have a white boss in the porn industry I guess (someone clear that up for me). GET OFF THAT. You more than likely had a boss at one point. So was he your slave driver? If he was black, was he the special slave master had to watch over you? We are grown and if I felt like it was wrong to have a white boss I had the choice of leaving and going to some other company. And why is the AIDS/HIV thing SO jaw droppin. the answer is not shuting cocodorm down. That will not stop the spread of the disease. What we as a people need to do is: 1.) Stay protected yourselves so u dont give/get the disease. 2.) Try to educate any and everyone about this thing thats killing our people 3.) stop making people who have the disease feel like they have one arm, one leg and two heads. 4.) GET TESTED. I have never understood Why some people are so quick to say something about cocodorm and its practices back in the day but don't do a thing to go to educate the community about unprotected sex. Must of which dont talk about the disease at all until its a negative thing (It's ok to talk about it. You dont get it verbally). REALITY CHECK!!!! WE ARE DOING THE SAME THING EXCEPT ON CAM AND ITS OUR RESPONSIBILITY AS A WHOLE TO PROTECT OURSELVES but having opinions is what america is about soooooo i guess yall said nothing wrong lol

P.S. before i go i saw one last post. No one knew anything about cocodorm and what we did until we were on TV. We didnt have sex in front of open windows. We didnt have a sit down with the kids or the neighbors and say what we did. And we didn't walk outside naked shaking our privates for the world to see soooooo thats not an issue either. And OMG what kids or out at that time of night looking in our windows from our backyard or the abandon lot behind us. Shouldn't they be inside preparing for school the next day.

thankx for reading

Alex I am just curious as to why you and as I was recently informed the Cocodorm.com website, keep referring to HisStory as "blogs like this and others".

I haven't passed judgement on you guys... all I did was post a link to the news story. Unlike other websites that are linked on your site along with mine... there has not been any commentary of my personal opinions on what you guys do (YET... this is my space on the WWW and I may find the desire to post something in the near future)

Like you and anyone else at the Dorm, anyone is free to leave a message stating their opinion. Since the begnning of this blog, I have not censored any comments. And I welcome an intelligent debate on not only my thoughts and my opinions but the opinions of others that read and leave comments.

In response:

I believe that the story posed by the news company is bogus. On Cocodorm.com they mention all 5 of the citations in which all 5 were proven inaccurate. I am a loyal member of this website and have renewed my subscription a number of times, and I have found that in each episode protection is used, unless of course it is a masturbation session. Also as stated in previous posts, the "artists" can leave at any momment that they please, and are tested before they are even engaging in any sexual activity. As for the children seeing, I saw the report on cocodorm.com live cam, and they went around the house showing you specific portions of the house. The only way kids could see anything is if they are peering through a second floor window. If they are, I believe it is against the law. Also, in the episode that the demonic news channel 6 reported all they saw was a black male with his shirt off through the window. This is typical in any home setting or enviroment.

I find myself in amost uncomfortable position. I am glad that someone recognized that there was indeed a problem in Chicago. Despite the best effort, I hope and pray of CCD and FlavaWorks management. Now with that said I hope that more attention can be given to the changes that CCD has made with the move to Miami. I to am a member and since the move to Miami I have not witnessed anything that could be classified as unsafe.

Regardless of the fact that CCD is an easy target. You have to acknowledge the overwhelming possibility that this is an attempt to remove a successful competitor. The fact is that I wouldn’t subscribe to any other sites anyway. There isn’t another site quite like it.

Now the moral issue, another thing that makes CCD an easy target. I have struggled with and often expressed my concerns over these young men being exploited. I have come to learn that these young men are just like the population they come from. All with varied levels of intelligence, desires, capabilities and even hopes and dreams. I hope that they are not judged or misjudged in this obvious attempt to hide a battle cloaked in social issues, when it is really about Internet supremacy and money. Like it not people that is what it boils down to.

Live in Miami - thugzilla.com, ohh no I guess they are going to go after them next...

If this were the playboy mansion no one would care. What are they going to do shut down every adult oriented website that broadcasts live video? There are thousands of them. Probably many in Miami alone.

This is just some homophobic retaliation of some disgruntled competition.

Seriously people, I am sure there are more pressing things to worry about on the streets of Miami. Drug Dealers, Murders, Armed Robbery, Prostitution, Homelessness, . . . not to mention ohh yeah the WAR in Iraq . . . . . . .

No let’s worry about some guys having sex, and broadcasting it over the internet for a fee. This is really ridiculous, let’s get our priorities in order.

Okay I’m for all those that support the CocoDorm and have a subscription, but let try to be intelligent about what we are posting as comments. On this blog the blogger has not condemn or passed judgment of Cocodorm, but provide links to the report that were out about CocoDorm. So I do believe whoever at Cocodorm posted this blog as a link used poor judgment and taste.

Then I can can’t understand why the Dorm cast isn’t being discreet about there business. If you know that camera crews and the police are watching you lay low.(I guess I was in the hood to long) Why is there “No” damn curtains, blinds or something on the windows, no matter if it is in view of anyone or not? Secondly I do have a problem not with the dorm, but I have a problem with the mention of a non-profit for kids’ money being use to fund porn, which has nothing to do with the cast, but the owner.

As gay black men lets stop playing the victim role and take responsibility for or actions. Sidenote: Is the Raw Thugs DVDs still being sold? If so CoCoDorm and Flava Works is promoting unsafe sex.(common sense is not so common)

Amazing how we as black men don't stand strong and hold each other hands, I have been watching porn form age 13, I now have a BA in 3 educational fields as a director of Sales and Marketing for a leading company and a strong black man, as a child sex and porn has always been around, never killed my view on life and choices that I made, it called guidance. I respect that fact that the people in the area had no idea what was going on at Coco Dorm, that tells you that the guys there is not out to expose them selves to the public and the kids in the area are safe, what NBC should be doing is looking for the listed offenders that are rapist, and killers in the area and inform the people and their kids what issue in that area which is 100% more important than men on the whole choosing to have consensual sex. Find topics that will sure to effect there area, I have watch priest, top government officials, moms and dads with a prom selections and condemned by man and not God for the choices they made get with the fact we all at one point watch porn it even help some marriages and education the un-know mind on pleasing there mate. If the sex is safe and the dorm is testing these guys, young or not the law states that the legal age for consent in that field is 18 we should only cast shame on our selves the parents, I had a collage class mate that was a guest at the Coco dorm, so it is not only poor young men it is men again young and old that made a legal decision to be there. I have a son of 8 and if he chooses to do porn when is becomes an adult then that is his choice, he like all of us give account for his actions with God, in regards to the Housing laws that is said to be broken the Health Committee need to be just and fair and go to each home in the area and inspect for the same reason and site every home for the same offence. (The health department can be at fault for victimization for this only came about as an issue after NBC choose there view on the home) They are trying to close down this home in which is one of the nicest homes on the block. The owner of Coco Dorm might be white but all my life I work for a white man and I have the right to choose not to, so let’s not move back in time. My views on it this concludes by saying if grown men and women choose to have sex on cam and be paid or not, it is there rights just like doctors, lawyer, teachers we choose our faith not NBC, there is a law and it applies to all not just the ones that NBC choose to have a problem with.

For the record, this is the letter that started the ruckus...

503 N.E. 27th Street. Off of 27th and Biscayne

At the above address, you will find the location for a black gay sex prostitution house.

This house is the current base of operations for a gay website named Cocodorm (www.cocodorm.com). The site features several cameras that that are placed in various rooms in the house that run 24 hours a day showing young black and latino men having sex with each other.

The papers contained in this package details the lurid history and well documented actions of this organization before being ousted out of Chicago, IL. You should also note that in all of the allegations levied against them, there is no action by the company to address them. They simply raised up and moved shop. To the house and address above. All of the reprehensible goings on are now occurring there.

You will also note the owner of the company, a middle aged white man by the name of Phillip Bleicher, has a long history of sordid affairs and shady dealings and is constantly embroiled in litigation, one of his cases included in the documents. Bleicher relocated his company, Flavaworks, from Chicago to Miami in May. The company’s office is located at 2610 N. Miami Ave.

This home is in a residential neighborhood full of children. Regardless of the legal rights this company may have to peddle it’s business, I don’t believe that it should be in such a neighborhood. I feel this situation bears your attention.

So here we are..

I sent the letter. Who am I? I can be a myriad of people…

Perhaps I’m a competitor
Perhaps I’m a past model
Perhaps I’m an angry neighbor that feels this shouldn’t be around children
Perhaps I’m someone who is currently litigation with the company
Perhaps I’m someone who doesn’t know this company at all and just have some moral outrage.

My point, it doesn’t matter who I am. Because I’m not the reason this media storm is happening, I’m just the current impetus for it. Flavaworks has gone through this many times before, and I warrant that it will go through it many times again. When you leave people devastated in your wake, you should expect consequences. You can hide behind the legal right to exist, that again, is not the point. There is a morality here that is ignored. And it is dismissed with a simple “Hey, it’s just business” You are a white owned company (Devin, I’m sorry part owner or not, is to obvious a calculated a move to create the illusion of a black figurehead, no different than “Thugzilla” being one for his white owned company) that is exploiting young black and latino men. You routinely use the word “nigga” as a marketing tool (referring to the banner on the Whatstea site “the Man trying to keep us down, but we niggas gonna come up” I’m paraphrasing here and it’s used on the DVD’s and on the COCODORM site).

There are many MANY other issues that we as humanity need to focus on, the war, homelessness, etc. And in that light this may seem small. But a big part of our anger at the larger issues is our belief that it is wrong ,MORALLY WRONG, for humanity to abide by these problems. It simply cannot be denied, the only thing being done here is a blind eye to the obvious. Yes, we all make choices in life, and there will always be those who don’t agree with my actions (but remember there we’re those that also justified slavery was right).

This is not to change the minds of those that believe I’m wrong for doing this. Nor is it to cause “The fall of Babylon”. Flavaworks won’t fall for this, they will get thru this, just like they did all other times. It’s just to bring things to light. So for all the “Pro-Dorm” folks..I leave this last statement.

Try to remember where “we” (read as African-Americans) were the last time white people felt comfortable using the word nigga as a marketing tool.

P.S. no I will not expose my identity, moral indignation has never needed a face or a name. All that it has ever needed was a will to be done.

Marz said...

They do have the right to make porn, and I see nothing wrong with the creation of porn.

However, if it's a business, it shouldn't be in a residential area. It's clearly against zoning. That's like having a Mcdonald's in between two row-homes.

Yes, they should use condoms. However, it's their prerogative to catch whatever or not. But, how are they pro-condom when most of their movies use the fact that they are, "raw" as the advertisement. PLEASE!! They're not watching for the horrible preluding acting.

I think there may be an extra sense of persecution since they're gay, and black. But, if they were doing it in the proper way no one would be saying anything.

However, their "productions" do have effects on others whether they realize it or not. Young MSM learning from the raw movies, will learn about the joys of rawness. And, working with gay youth on a daily that don't know the means of transmission it's scary to see them catching HIV out of ignorance.

I'm all for the flava folk. However, there is a proper way to do EVERYTHING. This was not the proper way. Really, just move to a warehouse, and have Trojan sponsor your company or something. Have these condoms lying on the coffee table, and let the models make their own decisions. But, making it seem like it's a health clinic there, and everyone is clean is a KI!

This story is a setup!!!

I have no idea who is behind this, or who would have an interest in pitching black gays against each other...

But it's clear this is a carefully thought-out plot to pitch black gays against each other.

Pay attention to how it is all unfolding :

1)The "anonymous" letter that starts it all.

2) The fake pretext of "slavery" and exploitation by the white man (cliched but hot buttons for the black community)

3) The story that is sent to the news.

4) The way it explodes on the blogosphere; followed by anonymous threats of shut downs which serve to incite the bickering.

5) The trolls who appear and pose as anonymous ex raped victims of Cocodorm; supposed "gay black" men; haters; supporters ; you name it..

And there you have yourself a scandal and a pretext to smear black gays.

Again, I have no idea WHY this is all happening now, nor WHO might have to gain from pitching the gay black community against each other...but be on the lookout cause more of such attacks might happen in the future.

"Opinion are like assholes, everybody has one and they usually only matter to their owners"

In discourse it's much easier to convey an ideal verbally than it is in print. There is no way that you can fit in every point and defense that you'll need for those determined to portray you in a bad light. You can go back and forth until the cows come home, what really matters in life is what you do. All that's happening at the moment is a bunch of verbal masturbation at how well you think you can type something and end it with a clever closing statement. To ALL the message posters, ask yourself if all your doing is typing your outrage onto some (with respect to the owners) innocuous blog, how much change are you really affecting?

I am neither condoning or condemning the dorm place, cause in the end what does my morality matter to them? I’m just someone who works with troubled youth everyday at a gay and lesbian center, and I mean EVERYDAY, with kids that are homeless because their fathers raped them and the family didn’t believe them to kids with veins so destroyed from shooting up that they resort to sticking needles in the flesh under their eyeball to get high. How many of the problems of the world can be resolved if people just stopped talking about it and did something? If you’re more than just an "armchair activist", understand that you're point has been made in print in these blogs and no more can be done in that arena. And I’m applying this to ALL the posters.

Now get up and go do something more. Move your bones and be active and make change. Become a stick or a stone. Because we all know that words will never (in the long run), hurt anyone

Notice the clever closing statement there?

People are up in arms b/c porn is made in this house?? Porn has to be made somewhere. "It shouldn't be around kids.." What exactly doesn't have to be around the children, the sex or the porn. If they were just living in the house having sex w/o video taping it, would there really be an issue?

Probably not, because despite porn being a BILLION dollar industry, there's a strong social stigma against porn. Most people know they watch it, so they really need to stop.

There must just be something about filming sex that makes it more terrble than just having it. In that case, people shouldn't send images of sex over webcams when they live in neighborhoods with children because that is going to harm the children in some way.

People please get a life, there are more important things going on in this country than where a porn company films its videos.

P.S. If they leave this neighborhood, they'll just go somewhere else.
