Oprah on HIV|AIDS in America

After talking with Magic and Cookie Johnson (yes he still has it, no they don't have any special drugs, and yes they are still having sex), she spoke with 6 women who contracted the disease through heterosexual sex. Most of her questions focused on their life with HIV and why they didn't use protection. There was only a brief clip of Peter Jennings interviewing 'DL' men but the definite message of the show was get tested, be safe, and you can live with this disease.

hmph - i need to watch oprah.
I saw most of this show and I enjoyed it. It was kinda sad to see these women talk about their struggle, but it was amazing to see how accepting they were of it. I'm certain it took a lot to get on t.v. (oprah at that) and discuss something so taboo and private. I agree with you the overall message was very balanced and percise.
i think the most profound statement was by the pastor in the last segment who reminded us that if this disease was attacking another race of people the way it is attacking african-americans... the white house would be all over it.
It's about f*ing time! I was tired of my community shouldering the whole cause and responsibility for the disease!

One point that I love that was touched on during the show was that if the numbers were as high in other communities as they are in the black community much more would be done. I agree.
Sadly with representations of Majic and others living longer than ever with HIV not enough responsibility is being placed on the value of safe sex. Yes we all have slip ups but when are we going to get it together as a people and help stop the spread of this terrible virus?
