The Women...

In 1939, Norma Shearer, Joan Crawford, Rosalind Russell and an entire cast of only women came together to make one of my favorite classic films... The Women. The film is about a wealthy socialite whose girlfriends and not so good friends find out her husband is having an affair with a sales girl at the local department store. The movie goes through scene after scene of witty lines, as the women read each other back and forth. But not only does the witty script make this film a classic but the fact that there are no men in the film at all and that it is shot entirely in black and white, except for one fashion show sequence adds to its appeal.

Oh he said the most touching thing in his will, I remember every word of it... He said "To my beloved wife Flora, I leave all my estate...

Well fast forward to Fall 2008, Jada Pinket Smith, Meg Ryan, Debra Messing, Candace Bergen, Lynn Whitfield, Bette Midler... hell I could go on and on... all these ladies reunite into a remake of the almost 70 year old film. And I can't wait to see it...

I pray Jada's role as a lesbian is more believable than what was shown in this trailer.

It would be my first time seeing this movie and I hope Jada can play a better woman love than that! She should be able to relate! lol

i love early films. there is something about the acting and the tone and dramatic flair that is just so engaging. personally have never seen 'the women' but the clip has definitely piqued my interests.

Sometimes I wonder why they don't remake a movie that was a flop and try to make it better. Then if it didn't turn out there would be nothing lost. The Women is a classic. when it was remade with June Allison and Joan Collins and men, it was no where near as good as the original.

I will still enjoy this updated version. It's a different time and different issues than in the 30s. Notice the diversity. But nothing will ever beat a classic. A classic is always timeless. I will go and see it. The trailer had me laughing my ass off.

Its so AMAZING and quite Interesting that you Spotlight this film, for as I watched the Trailor a few weeks ago, I wondered just HOW the film would measure up against the age-old classic. I am, however, very PLEASED to see JADA, once again, on-screen, working.
