Dumb Ass Tattoos

It was probably about 2 years ago now, when me and my two friends D&D ended up at a tattoo parlor in College Park, MD picking out tattoos from off the wall. Somehow they had finally talked me into taking the huge step that I had been contemplating for awhile.

After an hour of waiting, I picked out the Aries symbol I thought I wanted, sat in the chair and prepared to have my upper back tatted. I had been going back and forth the entire hour but it was hearing the needle turn on that made me think, "Do I really want this on my body for the rest of my life..." The same thoughts that had been preventing me from getting a tattoo before.

I have always said when I can think of that one thing, I will do it. I am still tattoo less today.

But what got me thinking of this is all the dumb ass tattoos I have seen lately. Mind you this is my opinion but as the blog headline states... "my thoughts, my opinions...." Take for instance dumb ass tattoo #1.... 38yo with a tattoo of an ill drawed cartoon character, when I asked him what it meant he said "nothing I was just young, I got it when I was 27." Tattoo #2... 27yo with wings... on his chest. Tattoo #3... 21yo with his ex's name on his back... how fucking dumb can you be.

I think some tattoos can be very beautiful pieces of artwork. And often ask to get a closer look when I can. But some shit like Eve's titty tatts and Angelina's 2nd or third ex husband's name make me just shake my head and wonder.

I've decided to have all the names of the men I'm dating at the time tattoed on my ass...long story short the list now looks like a tagged-up binder notebook and I'm having my current beau's name etched in my crack with my asshole serving as the "i"...I'm just afraid that by the time I'm in my 60s his name will be misspelled as the "i" could be an "o".... LOL

i work in HR and we just had a conversation about this last month in a HR networking group and about what is still considered professional in 2008.

i was surprised to see that most HR professionals that were in their mid 20s to early 40s still believe that if they are exposed (neck, hands, etc) it doesn't send a good look to clients and deemed unprofessional.

well Anonymous, I’m not surprised at all that any HR person would think that exposed tattoos, especially on the neck, would be unprofessional, it really is a turn off in corp. American in my opinion, however if your applying for fast food or a janitor position, than I guess it would be acceptable. :)

Funny topic and it is something we have all said before. I was at the beach one time and this old woman had this tattoo of a rose on her breast. Talk about a long stemmed rose.

I can empathize with wanting a tatoo but still not having one. Sense seems to outweigh my desire everytime.

a tattoo is like a damn new year's resolution. good at the time - but played out by the next year.

lol, while Angelina's arm tat is stupid as shit, thae piece on her back is beautiful. As the proud owner of 4 tattoos (and counting), I don't regret any of my body art. Granted, I'm only 18 : ), but I think I got things that will be appropriate when I'm 40 and 50, and that won't make your stupid tat list....

I've always live by the adage that "what i eat will never make you shit". So when I see people with visible tattoos, I have no judgement. I've had mine on my forearm for 9 years and have never regretted having it.

I wanted a tattoo when I was younger. I haven't found anything that means enough to be on me for a lifetime, so the desire has passed.

No need to do it.

I have tats. None are visible tho. I certainly see your position. It's a very permanent decision that you can't take lightly.

Eve's tittie tats have to be the worst though.

I've never understood men/women of color with tats, especially the chocolate flavored ones, all you see are smears of ink that look like they were done in jail.

And, that one on the neck, what's up with that? Unless you are rich, good luck finding a real job.

I've have no tattoos and have not had the desire to get one.

I am not surprised that the HR professionals think exposed tattoos don't send a good look to clients. In much of corporate America, it's more acceptable to make a statement with a colorful tie rather than a tattoo.
