I try to read at at least one maybe two books a month. But my last trip to Outwrite and Borders produced nothing I was extremely interested in reading. The past two books, Not in My Family by Gil Robertson and The Senator and the Socialite: The True Story of America's First Black Dynasty by Lawrence Otis Graham, have been a little heavy, but interesting at the same time.
So until I can get DLB's Books are Sexy campaign to the ATL or my girl Oprah's club... I will be soliciting your ideas for the next literary masterpiece for me to devour.
My bookcase has everything from Colin Powell's bio to all of E. Lynn's novels to E. Franklin Frazier's look at the bourgeoisie to Andre Leon Talley's ALT.

Another book that I really loved years ago was called Hostage by R.D. Zimmerman. I read it while on a trip to Jamaica and will never forget it.

I'd recommend one of Colson Whitehead's books. He's a 30-something African-American author in Brooklyn. While I liked both of the books that I've read by him, I'd recommend starting with "John Henry Days" and if you liked that one, checking out "The Intuitionist".
